The Space Elevator
Ascend 35,786 kilometres straight up to geostationary orbit, passing through every layer of the atmosphere and the belt of orbiting satellites.
How to use it
- Start the ascent and ride or scroll upward.
- Watch the altitude markers for aircraft, weather balloons, the ISS and satellites.
- Continue to geostationary altitude and beyond.
What it shows
A real space elevator would need a cable far stronger than steel; materials such as carbon nanotubes are studied for exactly this job.
